My Formula 5000
Don Breidenbach is one of several young American drivers who
ventured to Europe to begin their racing career. And he did it in a most
impressive manner. Breidenbach successfully graduated from the
Motor Racing, Stables International Racing School at Brands Hatch in
1971. He so impressed his tutors with his natural ability, attitude and
knowledge of the theories of motor racing, Breidenbach was asked to
join the school as an instructor. On the racing front in 1971, he was
consistently in the top three in England’s Daily Mail Championship
series for Formula Fords. He returned to the U.S. in 1973 and finished
in the top five in every race entered competing in the tough Formula B
class. In 1974, Breidenbach finished second in Formula B in the
SCCA’s Northern Pacific Division, and placed fifth in the Road America
professional Formula Atlantic race. His 1975 effort brought him two
championships in Formula B, the west coast Gold Rush series title and
an SCCA Divisional crown. This year(1976) his best finish was at Road
America placing 18th.
