My Formula 5000
Jim Corwin began appearing on Trans-Am grids a year after he began
racing in 1965. His first TransAm race was at Sebring in 1966 where
he finished second and his record in the series included numerous
finishes in the top 10 from 1968 through 1970.
In 1972, Corwin switched to a Lotus-Ford Formula 5000 car but was
not successful in the four races he started. For ‘73, he campaigned on
the Camel GT circuit placing 10th In the final touring car standings, his
best finish of the year a second In class at Pocono co-driving with the
SCCA’s only woman national champion, Donna Mae Mims. His only
road racing start in ‘74 was the Camel GT six-hour race at Mid-Ohio
where failing brakes ended his drive only 15 minutes from the finish
while in 10th place. Corwin has kept himself competitively sharp by
racing go-karts. He captured Michigan’s Buchannan circuit Class Stock
A Standard Light 1974 championship. In Class Stock A Standard Light

In addition to competing regularly in SCCA national races in A and B
sedans up to 1971, Corwin co-drove to third in class in the 1969
Daytona 24 Hours and fourth in the 1970 Sebring 12 Hours of
