McNeil did not compete in the 1975 Formula 5000 Championship series, his
return in 1976 driving a Lola T332 will mark his third year of competition in
this form of professional motor racing. His hope is the’76 season will be far
more successful than in 1972 and 1973 when he did not earn any
championship points. In 1974, McNeil competed on the SCCA’s National
Championship circuit and captured the 1974 “Super Series” title for
Formula A (5000) in his Lola T192. Out of seven Nationals he started, he
finished all in fifth place or better but, due to an accident, was not a finisher
at the Champion Spark Plug Road Racing Classic. His best race in 1973
was third in F/A at the famed Road America June Sprints. The president of
MAIRCO (McNeil Auto Improvement & Racing Co.) Began racing in 1970 in
a Formula Vee, the car he also campaigned in 1971. McNeil built his first go-
kart in 1957 and by 1961 was racing them, finishing fifth in his first event. In
1962 and 1963 he was a high finisher in the Kartvalle Championship, but a
neck injury from an accident in 1964 put a stop to his competition. In 1965
and 1966 McNeil raced a modified Corvette on drag strips, winning all but
three races he entered. He moved on to dirt ovals and stock cars in 1967
and in 1970 joined SCCA after a two-year stint in the Army.
