My Formula 5000
From soap box derby to Go Karts to Formula V and Super Vee, Steve
Pieper is again stepping up, this time to Formula 5000 for 1973. Last
year, he competed in the pro Super Vee series, winning the
Donnybrooke race in his Royale, and also earned points in six other
events to place ninth in the final standings. The previous year he
placed 10th in the Super Vee standings, winning the 1970's season
finale. His SCCA racing career began in a Formula Vee in 1968. By the
end of that season he earned enough points to tie for the Washington,
D.C. Regional F/Vee championship. Pieper’s competitive nature really
began to show when he won his first National event at Daytona in
1969, winning the World Championship for Formula Vees. A graduate
of Auburn University, Pieper works for a Porsche + Audi dealer in
Arlington, Virginia.
